Folic Acid
According to Folate monograph (NHPD, Health Canada) Folic acid is used as a factor in the maintenance of good health or to help the body to metabolize proteins and produce red blood cells. It is also recommended in pregnant women to prevent neural tube defects when taken prior to becoming pregnant and during early pregnancy
The maximum Tolerable Upper Intake Level in adults is 1 mg according to Health Canada monograph where RDA is 400-600 mcg. It is necessary to assure that people who use Folat, receive adequate amounts of Vitamin B12 throughout the day.

Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 deficiency is common and increasing with age. About 1.5 to 15% of general population, are suffering from B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 is necessary for the development of red blood cells, normal growth and maintaining nervous system structure and function.
Vitamin B12 deficiency causes anemia, fatigue, mood disturbance and other neuropsychiatry
and neurological disorders. Vitamin B12 deficiency has also been known as a factor that may increase risk of myocardial infarction and stroke.

Most people are treated in primary care with intramuscular vitamin B12. Injections can be painful of course, not as convenient. While serious adverse reactions are rare, injections can be dangerous in anticoagulated patients. A study (2006) consisting of 108 participants followed from 90 days to 4 months showed that high doses of oral vitamin B12 (1000 mcg) daily appear to be as effective as the intramuscular administration. Butler and associates (2006) recommended in their study to consume oral vitamin B12 initially daily and thereafter weekly and then monthly to achieve the same result as intramuscular intake.

Cyanofol provides adequate oral vitamin B12 as effective as the intramuscular administration.

B12 is used to help maintaining good health and to produce red blood cells. It is also used to treat pernicious anemia. Since Vitamin B12 supplementation can mask acid folic deficiency, it is important to ensure that patients receive enough Folate from alternative sources.
Combination supplements providing both Vitamin B12 and Foliate are ideal in fulfilling consumer’s needs.
