Soy Protein
Soybeans are legumes that contain up to 50% protein; 24% carbohydrates; and 25% oil including stearic, linoleic, and palmitic acids

Diets rich in soy protein have been found to reduce serum levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. Replacement of dietary animal protein with soy protein may reduce serum total cholesterol by 9%, LDL cholesterol by 13%, and triglycerides by 11% after one to two months. The effect on high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol is not consistent

Taking isolated soy protein orally may slightly lower blood pressure in premenopausal women
Soy supplements have shown to be helpful in about 30% of postmenopausal women.
Consuming a diet high in soy seems to help reduce hot flashes related to menopause.

The antioxidant, anticarcinogenic and antiosteoporotic activities of soy protein are probably due, in large part, to the soy isoflavones. Soy protein usually contains 1-3 mg of isoflavones per gram of protein.
In October, 1999, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved labeling claims for dietary soy protein stating that it may reduce the risk of heart disease. This is the 11th health claim allowed by the FDA.
Soy protein 20-60 grams ( 34-76 mg of isoflavones) daily seems to decrease the frequency and severity of hot flashes in some menopausal women.

Most of the evidence suggests that soy protein can increase bone mineral density or slow bone mineral density loss, and improve biochemical markers of bone turnover in premenopausal and postmenopausal women. The effect of soy protein on osteoporosis seems to be dependent upon the content of isoflavones.

Soy isoflavones are heterocyclic phenols with structural similarity to estradiol and selective estrogen-receptor modulators. Soy isoflavones bind to both the alpha- and beta-estrogen receptors.
The beta-estrogen receptor predominates in the heart, vasculature, bone, and bladder; and may account for some of soy's beneficial effects. The isoflavones found in soy, particularly genistein, inhibit oxidation of LDL particles, a process thought to play a role in early atherosclerosis.

Evidences suggest that Soy ‎proteins may protect ‎postmenopausal women from ‎osteoporosis or slow down bone ‎mineral density loss.‎

There is a lot of controversy about soy and its potential role in breast cancer. Some researchers think that soy is protective against breast cancer. There is some evidence from population studies that Asian women who eat a diet high in soy have a reduced risk of developing breast cancer.
